Types of Tribal

Nowadays when you typically think of tribal tattoos you think of solid black, curving lines, and abstract forms. But the history of tribal tattoos are so much more than that. There have been evidence of tattoos among tribes from all over the world including Maori, Samoan, Iban, Celtic, and many many others. The most famous of all tribal tattoos are those of Otzi the Iceman. He is believed to have lived over 5,000 years ago and his body is covered with tattoos of simple dots and lines. There are many other stories of mummies being found all over the world with tattoos that are thought to symbolize ritualistic, sacred, and therapeutic meanings.

With so many different cultures and tribes it can be hard to know which type of tribal is which. Here is a basic and short list of some of the known tribal tattoos that are still being tattooed today.

Maori: These tattoos are some of the most recognizable since they are face tattoos. They are very intricate and no two tattoos are alike. The tattoo artists are specialists in their own right as they use chisels and knives vs needles to create these tattoos. Getting a Maori tattoo can be incredibly painful. But there are plenty of designs to choose from such as Te Ora, Pikorua, Te Timatanga, Nga Hau E Wha, Koru, and more.

Samoan: Another very recognizable tribal is Samoan. There are two different types for male and female. Malu, for females are more subtle than Pe'a for males. Pe'a tattoos are usually on the lower half of the body, very large and intricate, and were traditionally used as a protection from wild animals. The designs include elements such as Marquesan cross, ocean waves, sun rays, and more.

Polynesian: This type of tribal has helped form some of the main foundations of contemporary tattooing. There is a ton of symbology behind these tattoos. These designs tie in to rights of passage, war accomplishments, affiliations, locations, and much more. The symbolism and placement of each tattoo has a very specific meaning.

Aztec: These tribal tattoos were traditionally tattooed during spiritual rituals meant to honor their specific Gods. The designs would range based on social status, and achievements. They were also used to differentiate between tribes and to showcase a warrior's prowess.

Eye of Horus: During ancient times these tattoos had very significant meanings. Inspired by their religious beliefs, the Eye of Horus is meant to be a sign of protection, sacrifice, healing, and royal power for both the living and the dead. Archeologists have found evidence of this tattoo on mummies they have exhumed over the years.

Overall this is just a handful of different types of tribal designs used by many different cultures. These tattoos are still prevalent today and have been modified by many different people. If you are interested in getting one do your research and find out as much as you can about the design you are interested in. Respect the culture and you can end up with an amazing piece of art that can tie you to lots of historical roots.

Reasons When You Shouldn't Get a Tattoo

You don’t know your artist: It’s always best to do the most amount of research that you can do when choosing an artist for the tattoo that you are wanting. Are they someone who can do the style that you are looking for? Are they experienced? Do they abide by health and safety standards to ensure they are being as safe as possible? What does their portfolio look like? If you don’t know what the artist is capable of doing, then you shouldn’t be choosing them to be your tattoo artist.

You jumped in without thinking of the long term: There can be so many different reasons that your life can end up going in a different direction then what you thought. Make sure to truly think about how the tattoo that you want to get today can affect you in the future. You might get into a job that doesn’t allow tattoos to be showing. You might decide that the tattoo you want today will be incredibly stupid 15 years down the road. Not to say that you shouldn’t get tattoos ever because you never know what the future brings, but make sure that you are prepared for any hypothetical consequences that can occur.

You don’t know the standards of the shop: Tattoo shops should be clean and be using sterilization processes to ensure the artist and clients safety. You can and should make sure that the shop is using quality inks and needles and there is sanitization happening before, during, and after your tattoo. If they don’t seem to care, you should walk away. You don’t want to risk your health for anything.

You got pressured into a tattoo: Your friends decided to get a tattoo and dragged you along. A partner has been aggressively wanting their name tattooed on your body. If you are getting a tattoo, make sure that you are getting it because you want to get it. Don’t feel pressured into agreeing to allow a permanent body modification to happen. Also, during your appointment if there is something that you truly do not like, please tell your artist and see if there is something that can be done so you don’t get stuck with a tattoo that you hate. If you are not 100% sold on the design that will be on your body forever, you should not be getting it done.

You don’t know what your tattoo means: Your artist can and should double check with any type of text that you are wanting to get tattooed. But if you are adamant that the spelling is correct that is on you. If you are not prepared to double check the spelling or translation of a tattoo, then you maybe shouldn’t be getting that tattoo in the first place. Until you are 100% sure that your tattoo is correctly translated and spelled don’t get it done.

You want a cheap tattoo: In the world of tattoos, you will get what you pay for. If you find a deal that is too good to be true, it probably is. A good tattoo artist is just that, an artist. You need to be prepared to pay them for their worth and quality. If you are

If you still want to get a tattoo that’s great! Find a good artist and shop, make sure you are getting what you want, and be prepared to have that tattoo for a long time. Tattoos are fun and can mean lots of different things to lots of different people. If you feel confident about your choice, then go and get that ink!

Common Tattoo Mistakes

Getting a new tattoo is exciting! During that excitement don't make these mistakes and you will end up with a great tattoo.

The first and biggest mistake that you can make when you decide to get a tattoo is to not do your research beforehand. The day of your appointment is not the time to realize that you didn't think about how big the tattoo will be, where you want the tattoo to go, how much this tattoo will cost or if you even like the style the artist is planning on doing. The first thing you want to do is plan your tattoo out. Pick a size, placement, style, color or black and grey, and any specific details that you want to include or exclude. Once you do that then find an artist that matches what you are wanting. All of our artists here at Lucky Bamboo are extremely talented, and they have different and various styles. If you need help, ask and we would be happy to point you in the right direction.

The next common mistake is not trusting your artist. Once you have a design in mind and have chosen an artist you have to be able to allow them to do their job. There needs to be a level of trust in order for the artist to interpret your ideas into an actual tattoo that will end up permanently on your body. It is important to give your tattoo artist the best description and details of what your tattoo idea is, but allow them to have enough artistic creative freedom to create the best tattoo for you. Also don't expect the artist to be comfortable copying another tattoo or artists work. Most tattoo artists will not copy and paste another artists work.  At Lucky Bamboo we are a custom tattoo shop and you can feel confident that the tattoo that you will receive is going to be one of a kind.

Another mistake that people can make with their first tattoos or if they haven't gotten any in a while is not understanding the cost of that tattoo. Tattoos cost money and good tattoos can cost a lot of money. Keep in mind though that the price tag that you see up front is not what the artist is pocketing at the end. They have a multitude of costs including; equipment, supplies, shop fees, ect that all factor into the rate that you get quoted. You are also paying them for the time and effort it takes to prepare and then tattoo that on your body. It can seem like a lot but in reality the artist is only seeing a portion of that as a profit.  If the price is a bit more than what you can financially do at the moment there are options. You can wait and save up for the future. You can also ask and see if simplifying and shrinking the design down in size or detail could lower the cost for you. Just remember at the end of the day you will end up getting what you pay for.

On the day of the appointment don't make the mistake of coming in hungry or thirsty. Getting a tattoo seems like no big deal but in reality you can getting poked millions of times with a needle and your body sees that as trauma. Your adrenaline will spike and your body will use a lot of energy while you are just sitting there. You want to make sure you can be as comfortable as possible. Make sure to eat before and stay hydrated. Lucky Bamboo offers private rooms where you can bring a snack and/or a water bottle to keep you refreshed during your tattoo. If you don't eat, you might feel sick or dizzy and that can make your tattoo hurt worse than it normally would.

And the very last mistake you can make is to not listen to your tattoo artists advice regarding aftercare. How you take care of your tattoo will determine how it will heal and look years down the road. The artist could create the perfect piece that in a few years looks tragic because you didn't listen to the aftercare advice and let it heal wrong or didn't use sunscreen to protect it. A tattoo is an investment in art and your artist is going to try to make sure that you have all of the information needed in order to protect that investment.

In the end, it can be very easy to make a few mistakes here and there but don't hesitate to ask those questions so that at the end you will end up with the best tattoo possible.

Is Winter the Time for a Tattoo?

The weather outside might be frightful, but is it the time to get a new tattoo? It depends. There are a few pros and cons to consider when planning on getting a tattoo either during warmer months or colder ones.

One of the biggest things that can damage and ruin a tattoo is too much sun exposure. During the summer months you are wearing tank tops and shorts exposing your new tattoo to the elements. One of the perks of the cooler months is that you will most likely be wearing more clothing and spending less time outside in direct sunlight. This will help protect your tattoo, especially during the healing period. No matter the time of year, the less time you spend out in the sun, the better protected your tattoo will be.

But one of the cons of winter is that the multiple layers of clothing that you wear to stay warm might feel uncomfortable and rub up against a new tattoo and irritate it. You might to stay warm, but consider wearing looser fitting clothing if winter time is your time for new ink.

Another con of the getting a tattoo during the winter months is that the weather tends to be harsher on your skin. Snow and ice with cold temperatures can make your skin drier than usual. You may need to step up your moisturizing routine a bit more during winter to keep your tattoo from becoming dry and dull.  Drier skin can make your tattoo feel more itchy. No matter how itchy it feels, scratching your tattoo can damage it.

One of the biggest pros to getting a tattoo during winter time is the fact that by the time weather turns warm your tattoo will be completely healed and ready to show off. You won't have to worry about staying out the pool or getting too sweaty while your new ink heals.

Another pro of getting tattooed during winter is you might be able to get your tattoo done sooner. When warm weather comes around with the chance to show off a new tattoo, the more people want them. Artists schedules can fill up fast and you will be waiting for a while. If you go during the colder months you might find more availability with the artist of your choice.

All in all, it comes down to your personal choice. If you are going to get a tattoo regardless of the season make sure that you listen to your artist with the aftercare. No matter what, it is up to you to take care of your tattoo if you want it to look the best that it can for as long as possible.

Finger Tattoos: Worth vs. Cost

Lately it has been more and more trendy to get finger tattoos. People have been becoming less shy about tattooing almost every part of their bodies and that is including the fingers. Whether it's something small and hidden on the sides, or a band instead of wearing a ring, there are a bunch of ways to make your style with a finger tattoo. But it is important to look at all the pros and cons with finger tattoos.

In the most practical sense finger tattoos may not be the best idea if you are aiming for longevity. Your hands are constantly being used in everyday life, exposed to sun and water and other elements that can affect the healing of your tattoo. Tattoos on your fingers can be the most difficult to maintain. Finger tattoos don't usually hold ink as well as other spots which can make them fade faster or need to get them redone or touched up frequently.

Another thing to consider is the time length of healing. Due to the fact that you are using your hands and fingers daily it can take a long time to heal a finger tattoo. It can be hard to place a bandage over and around your finger to let it heal fast and that can be hard to avoid soap and products coming in contact with it delaying a healing time.

It's common knowledge that fingers are small. Hence finger tattoos will be small. This can be limiting in the design of tattoo that you are wanting. It is hard to fit a lot of detail into a small space. Finger tattoos can often also be at risk for blow outs or blurred ink. With the skin on your fingers being so thin the needle can accidentally go too deep and cause lines to become blurred as the ink spreads too much.

One last thing to consider is that while tattoos are becoming more common place and more largely accepted it is not always a guarantee that potential work places will accept them. It may be a better idea to place a tattoo in an area that is not as visible or can be easily hidden. Unless you are going to be wearing gloves it can be hard to hide a finger tattoo.

All in all finger tattoos can be a fun trendy type of tattoo to get done. Keep in mind that even though it seems little and easy, one should definitely consider all the pros and cons to getting a finger tattoo.

Tattoos and Pain

Getting a tattoo involves a machine piercing your skin with tiny needles hundreds of thousands of times in a single session. That is going to involve a level of pain. For some the pain is minimal. For others it could be a lot worse.

Some of those more generally agreed upon painful spots include:

The head: This is generally agreed to be one of the most sensitive spots to tattoo.

The Ribcage and Chest: The skin is typically thinner and immediately over bones that can cause some pain.

The stomach: This area can be painful because the skin is highly elastic and stretches easily. This spot has been said to be very painful to some, and very mild to others.

Nipples and Breasts: There are lots of nerve endings that can cause some serious discomfort.

Hands, Feet, Fingers, and Toes: The skin is relatively thin and there are various nerve endings that can cause pain.

Neck and Spine: In the neck the movement of the needle might stimulate nerves on the back and sides causing pain. And the spine is not as padded with muscle or fat with numerous nerves.

Armpits: This is a spot that most tattoo artists warn is a very painful spot. The axillary nerve travels through the armpit and this nerve can be very painful to get tattooed on or around.

While these areas have been said to be painful it is hard to judge personally how painful the tattoo will be. Getting a tattoo will always involve a level of pain and because everyone has different levels of  thresholds it is hard to claim one spot is more painful than another.

It is very important to keep in mind that even if the area might be more sensitive than others it is up to you individually to manage that pain. You are in control of your body and mindset. If you go into a tattoo and psych yourself out imagining loads of pain it is very likely that your tattoo experience will be unpleasant. The saying "Mind Over Matter" truly does apply when it comes to managing your expectations of pain and the experience that you will have. The more you focus on the pain, the more uncomfortable you will be during the appointment. Keeping yourself calm and focused on something else will help in the duration of the tattoo. If you can distract yourself with music or watching something on your phone that can help with pain management. If it is acceptable you might bring a friend to talk to and distract you. If you can find a way to distract from the needles piercing your skin you will find the entire experience much more enjoyable.

At the end of the day tattoos hurt and it is all up to your individual mindset that you bring in to the appointment. If you can make it through then you can end up with some incredible art displayed on your body.

The Importance of a Follow-up Appointment

Some of the common questions we get here at Lucky Bamboo Tattoo when scheduling is what the follow up appointment is and why is it a recommended appointment. A follow-up appointment is an appointment that follows the initial tattoo. It is typically scheduled 2-3 weeks after the tattoo so that the artist can go back over and finalize any details or touchups that are necessary.

Something to remember is that the human skin is the largest organ of the human body. It grows, moves, stretches, and can heal differently compared to someone else due to a large amount of factors. Once you get a tattoo you want to make sure that you let it heal correctly. One of the biggest factors in healing is your lifestyle. What you eat or drink, if you exercise or not, your sleep habits. All of those things can factor into how your tattoo will turn out.

Details can take a good tattoo to an extraordinary tattoo very quickly. Some extra definition or a few more spots of color can keep a tattoo from looking flat or washed out.  A good tattoo should have full saturation of blacks, color and shading. There shouldn't be gaps or blotches. The lines of a tattoo should be crisp, straight and consistent throughout the tattoo. Immediately finishing a tattoo the skin is going to be tender, red, and potentially swollen. It can be difficult to make sure that all of the little details were added or if more is needed. The way to see any of those deficiencies is waiting until the tattoo has healed.

This is why the follow-up appointment is important. Once the tattoo has healed the artist can then clearly see if there is anything that needs to be tweaked  or added to take your tattoo from good to great! A follow up appointment may not seem like it is the most important thing after your tattoo is finished and you might feel like you have a great tattoo. But it is highly recommended so that the artist can truly make it fantastic with a little bit of extra detail and time!

Why A Deposit is Required

It shouldn't come as any surprise when you are ready to schedule your tattoo appointment that you will be required to place a deposit. A deposit is a way to financially ensure that you are committing to your appointment. Without some sort of monetary protection the tattoo artist and the shop would be losing significant amounts of money due to cancellations without any repercussions. Deposits allow a tattoo studio to run more efficiently even when there are unforeseen cancellations or reschedules.

Different tattoo shops can have different polices in place when scheduling an appointment. Most places require a deposit of some form when scheduling. Lucky Bamboo requires a deposit in the amount of the first or longest appointment at the time of scheduling. This may seem daunting when you are scheduling a full day of tattooing but overall the amount you are putting down initially may not even cover the full amount of time and effort that was put into preparing your tattoo.

Something to remember is that tattoo artists are not paid hourly or based on a salary. They get paid when they tattoo. When you schedule your tattoo, the tattoo artist is expecting you to show up. If you don't, for whatever reason, they may not get paid if they cannot fill your allotted time with another client. This is the reason for the deposit. You are paying for an artists time and effort to tattoo you.

The deposit for a tattoo is no different than putting a deposit down for work done around your house, buying a car, or making a doctors appointment. You are putting money down for a service. It may seem different because a tattoo is not a necessary or required service but it is a service nonetheless. You wouldn't want to go into work and not get paid for the work you do and the same goes for a tattoo artist.

When planning your tattoo be prepared to pay for your artists time and work. If you have concerns before scheduling be sure to ask and have a clear understanding of what the deposit policy is before you schedule your tattoo.

Glow in the Dark and UV Tattoos

Lately it has been trendy to want glow in the dark tattoos. You see all the photos online and think that a glow in the dark tattoo is the tattoo you want. This is a style that became popular in the 90's and people are still interested in it today. There are some serious considerations that you need to take if you think this is the type of tattoo that you want.

Glow in the dark, or UV tattoos are made with bright fluorescent colors that can be difficult to see in daylight. But truth be told these types of tattoos do not truly glow in the dark. Most require a blacklight in order to get the effect of glowing. One of the questions you need to ask yourself is if you will under a black light enough to have it be worth it to get this kind of tattoo. If you don't plan on carrying a black light in your back pocket you might want to reconsider this as a tattoo as the ink is usually not as visible under normal light.

Other considerations are the safety of UV ink. When this style first became popular some tattooers were using ink solutions that contained phosphorous. Phosphorous in some forms is toxic and the side effects can be many including blistering, burning sensations, and painful skin rashes. This technique of using ink solutions was deemed dangers and since then there has been a change in inks that can still create that glow that reacts to UV light. It has to be noted that the FDA has not approved the use of phosphorous based inks or the use of UV ink being safe for humans. There have been no reliable studies done to fully conclude on the safety for tattooing humans.

While there has been a change to non phosphorous inks and the risks associated are low, it is still extremely important to do your research and find a reliable tattooer that can do this type of tattoo safely. As mentioned before The FDA does not regulate tattoo inks so there is always a possibility of artists still using unsafe inks. Furthermore not every tattooer wants to create glow in the dark tattoos because they feel the risks are too high to create a safe tattoo. Here at Lucky Bamboo we do not offer that type of tattoo because we have not found a safe ink to use and do not want to take that chance. If you do find a reliable shop that offers that type of tattoo, make sure to ask if the ink that they are using is safe.

Overall this trend of glow in the dark or UV tattoos seems fun, but the risks might not be worth it.

Tattoo Sizes

You've decided you are going to get a tattoo. Understanding the size of the tattoo is key to getting the tattoo you want.  Using words like small, medium, large are very vague because not all people see those as the same size measurements as you might see them. Using the term "palm sized" is also very vague. While your palm may be 4 inches, another person's could be 6 inches. You need to consider your tattoo in inches. This is how most shops base part of the pricing around. Knowing the size can also impact your tattoo in other ways.

Sizing of your tattoo can impact the design. Smaller tattoos are harder to put a lot of detail into and have that detail stay crisp and clean as your skin ages. Smaller tattoos with lots of details can end up over time looking muddy. The larger you go in terms of size, the more detail you will be able to put into the tattoo.

Size of the tattoo also impacts price. Smaller tattoos are going to be shorter appointments, compared to a larger design that might take multiple sessions. Most shops have a minimum price point and that even if your tattoo won't take that long you will still be paying that minimum. If you want to stay in a price point, understand that the size of you tattoo will impact that.

The size of your tattoo can also affect placement. Smaller tattoos can be placed most anywhere you want them to be. They can be easily hidden or placed somewhere fully visible. Larger tattoos are obviously going to be taking up more space and that might be something you want to consider if you want it to be seen or hidden away.

The most important thing when it comes to getting a tattoo is finding an artist that you can trust. Trust them to guide you on sizing your tattoo.  Talk to you artist and listen if they tell you the design might not work with the size you have in mind. They want you to get the best tattoo possible and that might mean going a little larger or simplifying if you want to keep it small. Once you have figured it all out then you can be sure you are getting a tattoo you will love.

White Ink Tattoos

White ink tattoos have started to become more popular in the last little while. The are seen as subtle and delicate. One of the reasons people want them is because they are easy to hide and are seen as a little bit more unique due to them being more uncommon than a traditional color or black and grey tattoo. While white ink tattoos seem a popular choice there are some things that you need to consider with getting a white ink tattoo.

The first thing to consider with white ink is that this color is mainly used to bring dimension and highlight other colors. It has a great opacity, which helps it easily blend with other colors. But on its own a full tattoo of white ink is hard to achieve. Some tattoo artists might add a bit of other colors to give the ink more pigmentation. This could mean that your tattoo won't be fully white. And even if it is fully white ink it might not look that way on your skin based on your skin tone and the way that your body heals.

Which leads to the next point is that fully white tattoos don't last as long as other colors of ink. White ink tattoos fade quickly. They can fade to your natural skin tone or turn into a light grey or yellow (depending on the brand of white ink, so make sure your artist is experienced in this). After time your tattoo might end up just looking like a scar. Now if this is a look that you are wanting to achieve then white ink is the way to go. But if you are expecting a bright white tattoo for years to come you will end up disappointed. It is very difficult to re-establish white ink during a touch up and you may not be able to keep your tattoo looking as it did when it was first done.

Keep in mind that most pictures that you will see online of white ink tattoos are usually brand new tattoos that were photographed the day they were done and that could be very misleading in what your expectations are down the road. If you do choose to continue and get a white ink tattoo consider a few key points. First the tone of your skin, depending on how light or dark your skin tone is, it is going to affect how much white will show. Next is size, if you go too small it can look muddy and more like a defect than a tattoo. Clean, clear lines are the best option so that the design that you pick is visible. And finally taking care of your tattoo long term. White ink tattoos are more fragile in comparison to more traditional tattoos. You will want to practice good care to ensure that your tattoo will last as long as possible.

After considering all the points, it an all white tattoo something you would consider?

Tattoos and Scars

If you have scars and are wanting to cover them up with a tattoo there are a few things that you should know. You will want to think about the type of scar you have, and how old that scar is. What kind of tattoo design are you looking for? Do you want to try to hide the scar completely or do you want to highlight the scar and make it part of the design? And you also need to do some research to find a good tattoo artist who can cover a scar.

The first thing to consider is the type of scar that you have. How old is your scar that you want to get tattooed? Over time collagen breaks down at the site of your original wound and the blood supply is reduced. With passing time the scar can become softer, smoother, and more pale. Older scars are easier to tattoo over than newer scars and most places won't tattoo you if the scar is 6 months or less old. You should generally wait a year before attempting to tattoo over scar tissue. The longer you give the scar to settle and heal the better chance you have of creating a tattoo over it. Other things to consider is how deep is the tissue damage, and  is there toughened scar tissue?

This leads to the next point and that is to manage your expectations. Scar tissue tattoos differently than normal skill and can effect some design choices in what can be done to cover a scar. Scars harden your skin and make the surface irregular. Scarred skin is also less able to absorb ink compared to normal skin. The ink can also settle irregularly into your scar tissue. This can potentially lead to blurring and distortion. Some scar tissue might not take on any ink at all leading to areas of fading and patchiness. Tattooing over scarred tissue may need more sessions or darker colors.

This can be alleviated by finding a tattoo artist that has experience with tattooing over scars. You should do your research and find an artist with a style that you like and also one with the experience to give you the best tattoo possible. It is not impossible to cover a scar, you just need to have the patience and trust in your artist to be able to design the best tattoo possible and give the outcome you are wanting.

Dangers of At Home Tattoos

Lately there has been a surge of people buying kits to tattoo at home to try their hand at tattooing. With cheap tattoo supplies being sold online and self-taught tattooers offering how-tos and tips it's not surprise that people get the idea that they can tattoo at home with no major issues. This is all around a bad idea for multiple reasons.

For starters tattooers doing this out of their homes are unlicensed and it is illegal for an unlicensed ( or permitted) person to tattoo. Even if this person gets licensed/ permitted but doesn't license their home that is also illegal to tattoo in an unlicensed location. This can lead to all types of potential legal headaches if you decide to either tattoo out of your home or allow yourself to be tattooed by someone who bought a kit online and claims to be a tattoo artist. It's best to avoid that all together and head to a professional shop for a tattoo.

Which leads to the next point is the difference of at home and in a professional setting is the studio itself. The tattoo studio takes on all of the safety and sanitary precautions in order to provide a clean environment for the best tattoo. For example, all the surfaces in the shop are covered to ensure that they’re nonporous to avoid infection transmission, and all equipment is sterilized and re-sterilized. Basically, every single decision is made in order to prevent the contamination of anything in a given workspace. In a home setting there can be all sorts of contaminating habits occurring that can lead to an unsafe and unsanitary space. You don't know if they have kids, or pets, or if the space has been cleaned properly to ensure your safety. The risks which include blood borne pathogens, infections and allergic reactions are much higher and more likely with an at home tattooer than a professional in a studio who has been trained and licensed to protect you and themselves while tattooing.

The last point to consider is that most at home tattooers are not trained by a professional. It takes a lot more than watching a few YouTube videos and reading an article to be able to produce a high quality tattoo. An unskilled and untrained at home tattooer giving you a tattoo could lead to a bad tattoo that will need to be fixed or removed by a professional.

Overall the risks associated with going to an at home tattooer far outweighs any so called benefits that you may have heard. Make sure to do your research and pick an artist who is licensed or holds a permit, trained and works in a clean and safe studio to give you a tattoo or you might regret it in more ways than one.

Tattoo Consultations

If you are unsure or need help with the tattoo that you want then a consultation is a good idea. A consultation is a chance to meet a tattoo artist and discuss a design idea in order to create a great tattoo for you. We do have some recommendations before going into a consult.

If you haven't settled on an artist yet then it would be a good idea to take some time before scheduling. Go through some portfolios and read reviews before you pick an artist at random. You might pick one that doesn't do the style of tattoo you are envisioning and that can lead to wasted time for you and for them. You can always ask before hand what kind of styles an artist does before you pick them to do your tattoo.

After you have picked an artist that you are interested in you are going to want to go into that consultation with a few things prepared. The main components that you should be decided on are as follows. What is the general theme or idea for your tattoo? Are you wanting this tattoo in black and grey, or color? Where on your body are you wanting to have this tattoo? What size are you looking for? You don't have to have all the details in place, in fact it might be a good idea to leave some of the details up to the advice of your artist. But going into a consultation it is good to have an overall vision of what you are expecting to get out of this tattoo.

Once you have scheduled it is definitely important to show up on time to that appointment. First impressions matter and you don't want to waste your time and your artists time. At Lucky Bamboo Tattoo our consultation times are only 30 minutes and you want to be able to maximize your time with the artist to design your tattoo.

During the consultation it is important also to listen to the advice that your artist gives you. When you allow creative freedom you might find that they can design something better than you ever thought of. Trust your artist if they tell you that maybe the ideas that you have won't work. They want you to have the best tattoo possible. Ask questions and raise concerns during this time so you can leave the appointment feeling confident and secure that you will be getting the tattoo that you want.

Keep in mind that some tattoos don't necessarily require a consultation. If it is a simple design or you have a very specific idea that is clear to an artist you can potentially skip the consultation and directly schedule your appointment. But if you have questions and would feel more comfortable with talking to an artist before you schedule an appointment, call the shop and schedule a consultation.

Tattoo Colors and Skin Tones

Color tattoos can be an amazing work of art. When choosing to do a color tattoo you need to take into account a few different factors of your skin. Different skin tones and complexions can have a huge impact on the end result of your tattoo after it has healed and faded a little. Melanin is what gives your skin and hair a darker tone. Melanin is found in the dermis layer of your skin which is also where tattoo ink is put when getting a tattoo. People with little melanin will have a fairer skin tone, more melanin equals a darker tone. Knowing this can help guide you to picking out the right colors that will be vibrant and last.

Pale and lighter skin tones can serve as almost a blank slate and most to all colors can work and will show up bright. Lighter skin tones can work with deep, bright and vibrant colors while also working with softer muted colors such as light pinks, light purple, and yellows.

Medium and more tan skin tones might need a little bit more contrast with the color choice to stay looking vibrant after healing. Blues, purples and greens can provide a good contrast to your skins undertones to pop up. Vibrant oranges and reds could also be a good option. Yellows and whites will show up but they may not be very bright and color might fade more quickly.

In darker skin tones you will really want to focus on contrasting your skins undertones in order to fully have that color pop. Green, deep blues, magenta, or red could be good choices. Whites, yellows and oranges could come out looking dull with no impact.

In the end there is no hard and fast rule for tattoos and the colors that you can pick. It helps to understand the color wheel and you skin tones to find the best colors that can contrast and show up the brightest and last the longest while also understanding the more subtle choices that you can make. In the end find a good tattoo artist that you trust to create the tattoo that you will enjoy.

I Hate My Tattoo- Help!

Maybe you had a bad tattoo design, or you picked a not so good artist. There could be multiple reasons why you have come to hate the tattoo that you have. But even though they say tattoos are permanent, there are a couple of different options if you truly don't want to keep the tattoo that you have.

One of the most popular options is to get a cover up tattoo. Some things to consider with a cover up is that the new work will most likely need to be larger than the original piece. Also sometimes you might have to to go with darker colors or heavier shading to cover the original design. Cover up tattoos also may take longer in order to fully make sure that the original tattoo is no longer showing.

Another option if you don't want to fully coverup your tattoo is to rework/redesign your tattoo. Maybe you like the overall theme of the tattoo, but the detail is lacking. Finding a good artist can lead to a redesign of an existing tattoo. It could be adding more details, more colors, dimension, shading, ect. This also might be a better option than a full coverup depending on the individual tattoo.

Another option is to get the tattoo removed. Some things to consider with the laser removal is that it can be a lengthy process, with multiple sessions. It's also not a guarantee that you will be completely free of the tattoo. You could also end up with scaring after the process is complete.  You should also be aware of the health risks involved with laser seeing that all the ink is being pushed into the body, through the lymphatic system and other organs.

If you are truly unhappy with your tattoo you have options and don't have to be stuck forever with a bad design. You should do your research and pick a reputable artist. This shouldn't be a decision you make lightly in case you end up with an even worse tattoo than before. But if you do your homework and have a consultation to go over your options you could end up with a better tattoo than you thought you could have.

Understanding Tattoo Styles

There are so many different styles of tattoos that it might feel a little overwhelming when trying to decide what kind of tattoo you want. Knowing the names of different styles can help you to research and decide if that is the style of tattoo that you want. Here is a basic guide to some of the most popular tattoo styles to help guide in your tattoo decision making.

Traditional/old school: Tattoos with bold black lines, bright colors, minimal shading. Usually with stereotypical topics such as crosses, skulls, anchors, and roses.

Neo Traditional: Tattoos with finer lines mixed with bold colors and more true to life illustrated designs.

Fine Lines: Tattoos with a delicate style as the name suggests. Usually involve small or single needles to create the fine design.

Tribal: Tattoos that usually involve elaborate patterns and can range in size. They will highlight different tribal cultures.

Watercolor: Tattoos that are meant to look delicate, minimal to no lines to allow the colors to flow and blend.

Blackwork: Tattoos that have no color other than black with no grey or shading. These can be very big bold designs to very simple and small.

Realism: Tattoos that look realistic and true to life. These can be done in color or black and grey.

Photo Realism: Tattoos that look like a photograph. These can be people, places, or objects.

Japanese: Tattoos that have a distinct look and use symbolism to show meaning. These tell stories through the ink.

Trash Polka: Tattoos that mix blackwork, realism, and trash. Usually in black and red to create a mix of elements.

Geometric: Tattoos of lines and shapes. These can turn everyday things geometric.

Black and Grey: Tattoos done in shades of black and grey. Focuses mostly on the shading to create dimension.

Anime: Tattoos inspired by anime movies, shows, comics. There are many different styles of anime tattoos that can be created.

Cartoon: Tattoos done in a style to depict a cartoon caricature. Can be an actual cartoon or something else designed to look like a cartoon character.

Abstract: Tattoos that do not attempt to represent external reality. Can be different shapes, form, and colors.

Sketch: Tattoos usually done in black to look like an authentic, not to clean sketch look. These tattoos can also be done in color.

While there are a lot of styles listed, there are many more that were not. Even within some of these styles there are sub-styles. When researching for your next tattoo, take a look at some styles that you are wanting and use those as a starting point to allow your artist to design a great tattoo for you.

Matching Tattoos: Are They A Good Idea?

Matching tattoos have been a trend lately and people have been wanting to match with friends, family and loved ones. There are some considerations to take into account when planning to match with another. It is always a good idea to sit down and think about the pros and cons before booking an appointment.

It is important to think about placement with matching tattoos. You can lessen the pressure of a matching tattoo by placing it somewhere that could be easily hidden if you would like. You also don't need to be pressured to place the tattoo in the same places. Your partner could get it on their wrist and you could place it on your ankle. It is all up to you and where you want the tattoo to be.

Keep in mind size doesn't equal meaningfulness. A small and simple tattoo can be just as special as a full intricate sleeve. At the end of the day the day, the ink is going on your body so you should do what is going to matter the most to you.

When people think about matching tattoos they tend to think they are going to be identical. Your tattoos don't have to be copy and paste. Sometimes opposites attract and that can be a great way to embrace your differences. There are plenty of ideas for similar but unique tattoos that can play into a variety of relationships such as a romantic partner or your best friend from 5th grade. When you and that person decide to get a matching tattoo talk it over and decide together whether you are wanting identical or otherwise.

One of the biggest things to consider when planning a matching tattoo is being comfortable with the fact that it could become a reminder of a past relationship. You need to be ok with knowing that maybe your relationship with that person won't last.Remember that the more fun you have with the experience the happier you will be later down the road. If that relationship does end you can hopefully look at that tattoo as a reminder of better times you shared with them. Worst case scenarios cover-up tattoos are always an option.

In the end a matching tattoo can end up being a great bonding experience, just remember at the end of the day it is your body and you can choose what you would like to have tattooed on it or not.

Managing Tattoo Expectations

When you think about the tattoo that you want maybe you have a very specific idea in mind. Translating that into the tattoo that you end up with sometimes comes with some high expectations. In order to manage those expectations and love the piece that you walk away with it is important to keep a few things in mind.

The first thing to keep in mind is to remember that a good tattoo artist is indeed an artist. Each artist can have different styles, tastes, and skills. They are professionals and highly skilled at what they are doing. You can trust that they want to do their best to make you happy and have a tattoo that you will love. One of the most important things to remember is to pick an artist that meets your ideas in term of style. You don't want to pick an artist that doesn't do photo realism and then expect that from that artist. Look through their profiles and research if you like the overall work that they can create. Most tattoo artists do not want to copy and paste an image onto your body. They will want to create a custom tattoo that will be unique to you. If you are wanting an exact copy of something you can expect an artist to say no to you or steer you towards something else that they can place their own spin on.

In order to meet what you are thinking of in your head and the final product, a consultation is the best way to start. This is a time that you can discuss ideas of what you are thinking as clearly and concisely as possible. It could be a good idea to include some references. Don't go overboard, it is best to give ideas such as a particular style that you like or imagery that could be incorporated. This allows the artist to create the best tattoo possible.

At the time of your appointment the artist will show you the design they have come up with and the placement. The whole goal is to over deliver for what the client wants, that's the entire reason for a consultation. After your appointment you are going to want to follow your artists care directions in order to have your tattoo heal properly and look as intended.

Overall to make your tattoo be the best that you can get is to do your research, give ideas, and to fully trust that your artist is going to make you happy!

Tattoos and Numbing Creams

Getting a tattoo can cause a lot of pain. You are potentially sitting for a few hours at a time while a needle is injecting ink into your skin over and over. There is always the question of what can be done to help alleviate that pain. For some the answer is numbing cream.

There is a lot of different numbing creams that can be available over the counter but that doesn't mean that they will be effective and useful in blocking the pain of a tattoo. The most important thing to remember is that most over the counter numbing creams will help to decrease the pain but not eliminate. And it is a topical treatment so it will most likely end up being wiped off and become ineffective for the entire tattoo. During large tattoos the numbing effects can wear off and the nerves can become more sensitive causing you to feel more pain.

Some of the concerns with using a numbing cream is that depending on the ingredients of the cream they can potentially cause infection, scaring during the healing process and actually push the ink out of your skin. The most active ingredient in numbing creams is Lidocaine which causes changes to your blood vessels which will then alter the blood flow. It pulls the blood supply away from the surface of your skin and that can cause your skin to go white, flabby and jelly like. This can make it harder for the tattoo artist in manipulating and that can lead to a lower quality tattoo.

Depending on the shop you go to for your tattoo they may even turn you away if you use a numbing cream beforehand. The best options would be to talk to your artist and see what they recommend in order to prepare for your tattoo.

Small Tattoos- Are they worth it?

The trend of tiny tattoos has become pretty popular over the last couple of years with a surge of posts on social media. The popularity also comes with the concept that a tiny tattoo is small and easy to hide if wanted/needed. Small tattoos are great because they can easily be done almost anywhere on the body. They also have a delicate look for some is desirable. But are they worth it?

Some things to consider about small, tiny tattoos is that while they can be placed almost anywhere on your there are some areas that are better to avoid. Fingers, palms, and the bottoms of feet are areas that are always problematic to one degree or another. Some areas that are good for small tattoos are lower forearms and wrists, inner biceps, collars bones, lower legs and ankles. These are all spots that are great for small tattoos since the skin is less prone to fading and the spot can compliment small designs.

The next thing to consider is the amount of detail you will or will not be able to put into a small tattoo. With complex designs on smaller tattoos the design can look muddy or simply be too big to fit into the size of the tattoo. Fine simple lines are usually the best option to go for when looking for a small tattoo.

Next consideration is time and cost. Here at Lucky Bamboo tattoo the shop minimum is going to be an hour at each artists different prices. Even if the tattoo takes 10 minutes to finish, you have to factor in the set up and cleanup. In order to make it worth your time and the artist's time consider a few small tattoos that can be done easily at the same time.

Finally the last thing to consider will be the maintenance on your tiny tattoo. Most small tattoos will not last as long as bigger bolder pieces because of the delicateness of the tattoo. You will need to factor in touch ups for your tattoo in order to keep it looking sharp and not fading away with time.

All things considered tiny tattoos seem to be a popular choice, but are they a popular choice for you?

How long does it take your tattoo to heal and what to expect

Healing begins as soon as your tattoo is finished. Your tattooed skin is now a wound and your body will start to produce plasma to start the healing process.

At Lucky Bamboo the artists will clean the finished tattoo and then apply a piece of Recovery. Recovery is a Derm shield to protect and help allow your body to heal your new tattoo in the most efficient manner.  You will also leave with a second peice of Recovery to replace the first one after 24 hours and after washing with unscented soap and warm water. The second piece is worn for 4 days.

During this time your tattoo might be a little sore, especially with a larger piece that was done. It may also feel a little warm to the touch. There will also be some swelling and redness at first. This is normal. What is not normal is if those symptoms don’t go away or your notice redness and swelling getting worse instead of better. At this point you should let the studio know and if needed consult a doctor just to be on the safe side.

After the recommended 4 days of wearing the second piece of Recovery you should gently peel the shield off.  Once you have taken it off you should wash your tattoo with unscented soap and warm water. At this point your tattoo should be free of redness and swelling. You shouldn’t have any bruising or scabs and if all went right the tattoo should be mostly healed. All that is necessary to do is to keep your tattoo clean and moisturized to ensure that it is fully healed which can take up to 2-6 weeks depending on multiple factors for each individual.

Signs that your tattoo is fully healed is no redness, swelling, scabbing, peeling, bruising, and the skin should feel in texture similar to the skin around it.

How long should I wait to shave my newly tattooed area?

After getting a new tattoo in a place you want to shave later it is important to remember proper aftercare. A completed tattoo requires anywhere from 2-4 weeks and sometimes even 6 weeks, possibly longer to fully heal. During this time it is important to give your tattoo the best possible aftercare so you can have the tattoo look as great for the rest of your life.

Part of that aftercare is treating your new tattoo like a wound. Lucky Bamboo provides great information on handling the aftercare of your new piece  and one of the practices is to leave your tattoo alone as much as possible doing the healing process. The less you mess with it, the better it will heal. This includes shaving your new tattoo. You don't want to shave over a healing area of skin and further prolong the healing process or create damage to your new tattoo.

Everyone heals at a different rate and that all depends on the individual, the size of tattoo, the area of where the tattoo is located, the artist whom did it and their experience level, how it was cared for, the persons health and lifestyle to name a few. It is highly recommended that you don't shave over your tattoo until it is completely healed.  At the point of your tattoo completely being healed then you can proceed with your normal shaving habits. If the skin under and around the tattooed area looks the same as the untattooed skin then it is most likely ok to shave. It is recommended though to add a moisturizer after shaving in order to protect your tattoo.

Thinking About Getting Your First Tattoo But Don't Know Where To Start?

Thinking About Getting Your First Tattoo But Don't Know Where To Start?

Here are some tips from the pros!

Deciding to get your first tattoo is a big decision and one that many people struggle with. People are torn between what they should get and where to place it. Should it be something memorable or fun? Should it be small and sort of hidden or loud and proud? Should it be bright with color or black and grey?

We work with a wide variety of people and we hear their comments about this. We have talked with people that regret their choice for their first tattoo and those who have not only loved it, but have gone on to get many, many more. We have learned that most people who end up regretting their first tattoo, do so because they did not take the time to research their artist prior to receiving it. Here are some guidelines and tips to help you avoid that.

The first thing one should be doing is looking into a potential studio's cleaning practices. At Lucky Bamboo Tattoo we have over 15 years in business and 50 years combined experience amongst our artists and we make cleanliness one of our top priorities but, not everyone is us.  The second recommendation we have is to search for an artist with a style and technique that you enjoy and that match the style of art you desire. Every artist has their own unique styles and strengths. Most will display their work for potential customers to view so, take the time to view a few different artists and their styles before deciding on one. Finding an artist with experience is also very important, don't be afraid to ask questions about the artist's history in tattooing. Ask about their apprenticeship experience, how long they have been tattooing,  and if they have any formal art education.  Avoid choosing an artist based solely on price and find one that will give you the end result that you want. Making a mistake on your choice of artist can cost you later if you need your piece repaired or redone by a reputable artist.

Many people have a strong idea or even a drawing of the piece they want but, keep in mind that most tattoos have to be modified to fit on the body in a way that looks pleasing to the eye. Also, the size of a tattoo matters, especially if you want it very detailed. Occasionally a small piece will need to be modified and made bigger in order to achieve the desired result.  It is a good idea to try not to be too rigid and to allow the artist some freedom. If you are wanting your piece to look a specific way then it is a good idea to bring in a reference photo for your artist to look at.
Often times when people allow their artist some artistic freedom on their piece, they discover that it looks even better than it did before. The size of the tattoo tends not to be as important as placement. It is generally recommended to avoid very visible places on the body when getting a first tattoo such as the hands and neck. It is better to opt for somewhere that can be covered by clothing in the beginning and to save to more visible pieces for a later session.

Taking all of these into consideration and taking enough time to find the perfect studio and artist will ensure that the fresh tattoo you get will be exactly what you want!

The Do's and Don'ts of Getting a Name Tattooed on Your Body

The Do's and Don'ts of Getting a Name Tattooed on Your Body

People come to us with all sorts of ideas for a tattoo. Some clients come in with an idea for a very meaningful piece that is in memory of someone or something very important to them. Others come in with fun ideas that showcases their personality. Then there are others who desire intense artwork and are more focused on the theme and vivid imagery of their tattoo.  We honestly love doing them all!

If a client comes in and wants to get a memorial tattoo for a friend or loved on that passed away then that is heartwarming and we love being a part of that. Including another person's name in the tattoo makes sense in this instance. In that situation, it is easy for us to agree and feel good about tattooing a name on someone. Likewise,  if a client wants a portrait of their child or pet tattooed on them, then that also brings us joy. That is one of the many reasons why we're in this business, to help people to create a lasting memory and to use their body as their temple to express themselves any way they wish. The only time we see this become an issue is when people place the name of someone who is not related or passed on, onto their body. Everyone wants to think that the person they are with will always be there or that their best friend is always going to have their back but unfortunately people sometimes change and we cannot change that. It is placing a lot of faith on another person, hoping that they continue to be the person you know and treat you the way you deserve. It is one thing if you get a tattoo that you chose and then decide years later that it's not representative of you anymore. It is an entirely different thing to place that on someone else by putting their name on your body and then hoping for the best. That is why most artists will tell you that they don't like tattooing the name of a girlfriend or boyfriend on someone and some will even refuse. Simply because they have seen so many people regret these decisions later.

Getting a tattoo is in itself, a big decision. It is a permanent addition to your appearance. It is important to ensure that what you are getting is more than just a passing interest.

The Truth About Blackout Tattoos

The Truth About Blackout Tattoos

The new trend explained

Tattoo trends come and go. We have seen an era when barbed wire wrapped around the arm was the in thing. We have dealt with the fall out of the lower back tattoo trend and there have been many others that have come and gone. Not all trends fade but, some do.

One of the newest trends seems to be black out tattoos. Black out tattoos are a style of tattoo where a portion of the body if fully saturated with black ink or "blacked out".  The origins of this began as a way to cover up art that either looked bad, was not done properly, or represents something that the person is not into or a part of anymore.

Recently it has become popular as a way to create negative space designs. Negative space tattoos emphasis an image but contrasting it with black ink against the skin. Essentially it is reversing the image, using your skin as the main subject. To create a leaf, for example, the leaf would be outlined but the inside of it would be left free of any ink. Instead, a full layer of ink surrounding the image would be placed, causing the image that is still the color of the client's skin to stand out.

It is interesting to see this concept that started as the ultimate cover up be molded into something unique. That is something that is constantly happening in the world of tattoos. When an industry is made up of artists and creators it is inevitable that many unique things will come from it but, we will have to see where this trend goes and if it sticks around of fades.

Why the cost difference amongst shops

Picking The Right Shop And Artist For Your Tattoo

Why Some Artists and Shops Are More Expensive Than Others

In this day and age it seems like the price of everything is rising and it is sometimes hard to determine who is being legitimate and who is simply trying to gouge their customers. Tattoos can be expensive but, you get what you are paying for in the world of tattoos and when you're making a permanent addition to your body, it is important to have all of the facts. Often times we hear of people who are price shopping for their tattoos, looking for the cheapest artist and this can lead to problems as there are a variety of reasons that an artist or shop may charge more than some of their competitors.

Tattoo artist typically charge by the hour and everyone's rate is different. Those that have lower hourly rates also typically have much less experience. Those with higher rates have likely been in the business for an extended period of time. Many artists whom charge more spent a large number of years apprenticing, learning different and intricate techniques and styles, and honing in their skills where as someone with a lower rate may have not completed an apprenticeship at all. Artists with a higher hourly rate often times have a formal art education and a long background and history of art training whereas someone with a lower rate may have artistic skill but, they may not have all the necessary training to make their art crisp and unique and the best it can be. Artists that charge more are often capable of drawing and creating their own unique creations while someone who has less experience might only be capable of tracing and recreating the work of others. In addition, some styles of tattoos require special expertise and skill that may be rare even amongst artists. An example of this is portraits. It is very difficult to recreate a realistic replica of a photo and it is common to see people agree to get these types of tattoos from less experienced artists because they charge less and immediately regret it after they see that their new ink doesn't really resemble the picture of their beautiful infant they brought in as a reference. It then can cost the customer a lot more money in the long run when the tattoo needs to be fixed and redone by a more skilled artist. It is a safe statement to say that an artist's hourly rate directly correlates with their experience, skill, and popularity. These artists often have a strong reputation both amongst other artist and consumers.

So what do you do if you really want to get that tattoo that you've had on your mind  but you don't have the money for? Certainly don't settle for an artist that will not be able to provide you with the end result you want simply because the tattoo will be more affordable. One option that we have for our clients is the ability to place money on their account to save up for later. This allows the customer to get the piece they want, done correctly, and if it is a big piece then the artist and customer may be able to start on sections of it.

In the end it is best to be patient and take the time to find the artist that fits your needs and to be aware that a higher price per hour is really only ensuring that you get exactly what you want and and you get it done safely.

sun screen blog

How To Protect Your Tattoo from the Sun And Keep It Looking Young

There are many options out there that can protect your skin and your artwork from the damaging effects of the sun and here at Lucky Bamboo Tattoo, we want to make sure that you have all of the tools you need to keep your artwork looking pristine. Unprotected time in the sun can zap the life out of any tattoo. The UVA rays of the sun can fade the colors in any tattoo by penetrating the skin and breaking down the pigment of the ink.. This is particularly true for recent tattoos or those that are still in the midst of the healing process. Special care should be taken for new tattoos as the skin can burn and peel much easier than normal, which can not only increase the amount of time it takes to heal but, it can also drastically effect the finished product. In these early stages, the best course of action is to keep your ink covered up and out of the sun. This is helpful for older tattoos as well. In fact, this may be the easiest and most effective way to keep your art looking young. Draping a towel across your tattoo while enjoying your time on the beach or wearing a t shirt rather than a tank top while out in the sun can greatly reduce your risk of sun damage.

For those that prefer a more natural approach, one of the safest and most effective forms of sun screen in the mineral compound Non Nano Particle Zinc Oxide. This compound sits on top of the skin rather than being absorbed and reflects the suns rays rather than allowing them to be absorbed into the skin. Another trick to keeping exposure to a minimum is to avoid certain times of the day when UVA rays are the highest. It is a common misconception that all of the suns rays are harmful when it is actually the UVA that is the most damaging. UVB is beneficial for the absorption of Vitamin D. Throughout the day the levels of both of these sun rays vary, meaning there are times of the day where the risk is higher than others. There is an app available called "Dminder"  that pinpoints your location and tracks these levels for you. Finally, traditional sun block with an SPF of 30 to 50 can effectively keep your tattoos protected.

We know that you love your artwork as much as we do and with the right care, your tattoo can retain it's youth for years to come.
